The Sisters of St. Joseph Residence included the following green features:
• Optimizing energy cost performance of 52% better than the Model National Energy Code for Buildings, with an energy consumption savings of 46% through: ground-sourced heat pump system; energy recovery ventilators and heat recovery wheels; increased thermal performance of the building; and,
occupancy sensors and daylight sensors for lighting control;
• Reducing indoor potable water use by over 40% with rainwater for sewage conveyance, dual-flush toilets, and low-flow faucets and showerheads;
• Eliminating potable water use for irrigation of the extensive lands;
• Creating a Conservation Lands Management Strategy to restore over 90% of the site;
• Purchasing a low consumption hybrid for shared occupant use; and,
• Providing a green housekeeping program to the building occupants for improved indoor environmental quality.
